I had abit of luck in ebay and picked up a Z Axis for almost nothing. OK I had to spend several hours cleaning it up and modifying to so it would fit, at the some time I picked up a stepper motor with a mounting frame/coupling. I only wanted the coupling but it turned out that the mounting frame was a standard size, so my motor fitted.
I still need to remove the rest of the paint, but it's looking good
Using standard components does have some advantages.
These things are wonderful, even if the motor/drive thread is 3mm out of alignment the motor still runs smoothly.
